Duration & Itineraries Mount Rinjani Trekking Lombok

  • 2 days / 1 night (2D-1N) — usually a fast summit attempt.
  • 3 days / 2 nights — more common, includes summit and lake, somewhat more comfortable pacing.
  • 4 days / 3 nights — allowing more time for acclimatization, more scenic rest stops or exploring less-used routes.

Difficulty & Conditions Trekking 

  1. Trekking becomes quite challenging, from the crater rim to summit. Steep, rocky, sometimes sandy/loose soil or ash. Physical fitness matters.
  2. Temperatures vary a lot:
    1. Daytime (lower elevations) ~ 15-25 °C
    2. At higher camps/rims/summit → near 0-5 °C, at night.
  3. Altitude is a factor — risk of altitude sickness. Hiking at a gradual pace, staying hydrated, and acclimating help.

Permits, Rules & Logistics Mount Rinjani Trekking Lombok

  • You need to register and pay entrance fees/permits. There is an E-Rinjani application for registration. A health certificate is require within 24 hours
  • Guides & porters are strongly recommend, often required. Solo hiking without guide is discourage by National Park regulations.
  • There are environmental regulations: waste management, respecting park rules, leaving no trash, etc.

Best Time to Mount Rinjani Lombok

  • Ideal season: April → October / early December. Outside this window, the weather (rain, wind, storms) can make routes dangerous or closed.
  • Avoid monsoon/wet times (January-March).

What to Pack / Preparation

  1. Good hiking boots & waterproof
  2. Warm layers for night/summit (jacket, fleece, gloves) + day clothes (breathable layers).
  3. Sleeping bag
  4. Headlamp / torch + spare batteries.
  5. Sun protection (hat, sunglasses, sunscreen), insect repellent.
  6. Rain gear (watch out for sudden rains or storms).
  7. Water purification / enough water; energy snacks.
  8. Small first aid kit.
  9. Camera, power bank.
  10. Physical prep: some cardio/strength training beforehand helps (legs, lungs), and maybe some hikes with elevation gain.

Risks & Things to Note Trekking 

  1. Some parts of the trail may have limited communication.
  2. The weather can change fast. Fog, rain, and cold temperatures near the summit.
  3. Slips/falls, on loose terrain.
  4. Altitude sickness.
