Trek Wae Rebo Mountain, Flores

Trek Wae Rebo is a traditional Manggarai village located in the mountains of Flores, Indonesia. It is famous for its unique cone houses (Mbaru Niang) and for being a UNESCO cultural heritage site. The village is isolate, the only way to reach by trekking through the forest and hills.

Best Time to trek Wae rebo

  • Dry season (May – September) → Safer trails, clear skies, better views.
  • Rainy season (October – April) → Trails can be slippery and more challenging.

What to Bring Wae Rebo 

  • Comfortable hiking shoes (anti-slip).
  • Warm clothes (nights and mornings can be chilly).

Day 01. Labuan Bajo – Denge village – Wae Rebo village (Lunch and dinner)

05:30 Hotel pick-up in Labuan Bajo. Depart for Denge Village via coastal and mountain roads.
07:30 Quick stop at Lembor Rice Terraces for photos.
08:30 Continue to the Cancar Spider Web Rice Fields. Short walk to the viewpoint.
09:00 Resume drive toward Denge/Dintor village
11:00 Arrive in Dintor Village.
11:45 Transfer by car/motorbike to Denge Village (about 15–20 min).
12:15 Begin trek to Wae Rebo. Trail uphill, 6–7 km, 2.5–3 hours.
14:45 Arrive at Wae Rebo Village. Participate in the Welcoming Ceremony (“Waelu” in the main house).
15:15 Check into a shared traditional house (Mbaru Niang). Free time: explore the village, chat with locals, and enjoy coffee.
18:30 Dinner with the villagers (simple home-cooked meals).
20:00 Stargazing and relaxing in the quiet mountain atmosphere.
21:00 Sleep in the traditional house (basic bedding, mosquito nets).

Day 2. Wae Rebo – Denge – Labuan Bajo (Breakfast & Lunch)

05:30 Sunrise & morning coffee, watching the mist lift over the village.
06:00 Join villagers in their daily activities—coffee roasting, weaving, or farming.
07:00 Breakfast (usually rice, vegetables, eggs, and local coffee).
08:00 Final photos and souvenir shopping (ikat weaving, coffee beans).
08:30 Begin trek down to Denge (about 2–2.5 hours).
11:00 Arrive in Denge and freshen up.
11:30 Drive to Dintor for lunch.
12:00 Lunch break.
12:45 Depart for Labuan Bajo.
17:30 Arrive back in Labuan Bajo. End of trip.
